United Way of Greater Atlanta and Build-A-Bear Workshop partnered to hand out more than 4,000 bears to children in schools across Greater Atlanta. The bears act as a reading buddy for kids — children read to their stuffed animals and create stories, and these communication skills lay the groundwork for reading and writing. Research shows that about two-thirds of Georgia’s children are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade. Building stronger readers can ultimately improve the well-being of children in all of Greater Atlanta.
